Maybe you think you have guessed my point and answer yes. Smart - but think again…
Nonetheless: Sorry, I’m not able to lie. I was born without the necessary software installed into my brain to do so (and some other things, too - but that is another story to tell…)
I could keep my mouth shut. But sorry, I won’t do that, either.
So let me ’splain. Let’s suppose you are in a job you don’t like, but you feel you must stay there, because there are bills to pay, because you want to send your kids to college, or because of some other reason. I’m sure you have very compelling reasons to stay in that job, but deep down in your heart you know that you would rather do something very different. Do you want me to tell you that your job isn’t so bad after all, that you should be glad you have a job at all, and you should happily enslave yourself to earn your boss his next luxury sports car?
Well, this place is called “living your dream“, after all, and I’m sure it is not you deepest desire that your boss is getting richer and richer through your hard work.
Instead I will tell you what you knew yourself if you were honest to yourself. I will tell you that your job sucks. Maybe it’s right for someone else, but not for you, and you know that. If I have to get you a kick in the …pants so that you admit the truth, you will get it.
I often have a very direct way to make my point. This is not to scare you away. It’s also not because I don’t care about you. I really do! And it’s surely not that I don’t like you.
It is because if you you are like most people, you have the shields up to protect the little world you decided to live in. If you were living the life of your dreams, you wouldn’t need them - but if you are not, they are right there. And as long as your shields are up, I can’t reach the real you - the one that knows the truth, that already knows that you are heading into the wrong direction, and the one that keeps yelling at you to change the path you are walking on - that is if you haven’t already locked it away in a dead room.
So it is not my foremost goal to make you feel good (or your ego, for that matter…), but to make you think about your life - what it is like and what you want it to be like. What you want to do. What you want to be - all deep down in your heart. Because when you get there, then you will feel really good.
So in order to reach that real you, I must have you put that shields down. There are many ways to get through, and one of my favourite ones is to fire verbal cruise missiles onto your shields until they break down.
How do you know that I got through? It’s when you start to feel the pain. You will probably believe that it is me and my missiles that are hurting you, but you are wrong. It’s the fact that I am right that hurts you. It’s your inner truth that breaks through again, and that truth scares you to death. It is something you really want, but you don’t feel that you can have it for some reason, ranging from “one does not do this” to “I am no Gandhi”.
Be at least true to yourself. If something feels wrong, then admit that it is, even if you don’t see a way to change it right now. Soon enough you will.
Let that truth out, and act on it if you can - even if it only is some small first step. If you don’t know how to act, then ask, and an answer will eventually arise. Almost immediately the pain will be replaced by a growing feeling of joy and enthusiasm.
And that’s what your life is meant to feel like!
